IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Haley
Wilson
September 9, 1962 – April 25, 2019
Miles Haley Wilson, born September 9, 1962, in Houston, Texas, passed peacefully from his worldly life on April 25, 2019 and is now living with his Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.
This world is a better place for having experienced Haley's impassioned exuberance; he was loved by everyone who knew him. He was known for his joyous spirit and boundless enthusiasm that he shared with all. Throughout his life and especially during his bout with cancer, Haley served as an inspiration for those who had the privilege to be around him and even those who could only admire him from afar. He served as a Christian model of how to zealously savor life and fearlessly face death.
Haley attacked every endeavor with an infectious positivity that set him apart and made everyone take notice. He spent his professional life working in the IT and healthcare industries, most recently serving as the Managing Director for Cumberland Consulting Group, as Chief Operating Officer for QualChoice Healthplans, and Director of Information Technology at Prudential Insurance in Houston, Texas. He loved his co-workers and maintained deep relationships with people from all over the country with whom he'd worked over the years. He also served his community by sharing the skills he'd acquired through his IT career to serve on the UALR Computer Science Advisory Committee.
Haley was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Assistant Scout Master and Troop Committee Chairman, and was a fixture at scouting functions throughout central Arkansas working with Troop 395. He could always be counted on to lead and assist with hiking, canoeing, and camping trips whenever he was needed and would drive all over Little Rock filling up multiple trailer loads of items for the annual Boy Scout Rummage Sale. He treasured and maintained the friendships made over the course of his involvement with scouting.
Spending time outdoors was always a must for maintaining his active lifestyle. He loved spending time out on the lake and hiking Pinnacle Mountain. He participated in all sorts of athletic activities including the successful completion of multiple marathons, long-distance bike rides, sprint triathlons, and endurance races. He was an accomplished tennis player winning several tournaments in Houston before extending his success in Arkansas at the Little Rock Athletic Club winning several club championships. When he wasn't playing tennis or working out there, he could often be found pondering the issues of the day at his early morning meetings with his many friends who made up the "Breakfast Club."
Though he loved his adopted hometown of Little Rock, there was no doubt that Haley was all Texan. He was quick to share stories about his time growing up in Belleville, graduating from high school in Katy, and his college years at the University of Texas and Stephen F. Austin University, where he was a proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. No matter what the topic, Haley was an encyclopedia of information when it came to Texas. He was an ardent Longhorn fan and his fingers were habitually held in a "Hook 'Em Horns," particularly around his Razorback friends.
His greatest love, other than his family, was his church. His church family at First Colony in Houston, TX still misses the invaluable contributions that he made during his time there serving as a Deacon and indispensable member. He continued that service at Chenal Valley Church as a Deacon and director of almost every ministry opportunity available. He loved his church and was loved by its members. He will forever be remembered as the beloved "villain" of numerous Vacation Bible School skits and as "Mr. Haley" to the kids who loved and enjoyed him so much. While his church family grieves his loss, it is without a doubt that he is with his Savior now and was undoubtedly greeted with the words, "well done, my good and faithful servant."
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Michelle Self Wilson; his daughter, M'Kenzie Wilson and daughter-in-law, Alyssa (Decatur, GA); his son, Miles Austin Wilson (cadet at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY); his parents, Miles Davis Wilson and Carolyn Wilson (Austin, TX); his brother, Andy Wilson and wife, Heidi (Lubbock, TX); his sister, Stacy Wilson Westover and husband, Mike (Austin, TX), his father-in-law, Billy Self (Baird, TX); his sister-in-law, Rebecca Harborth and husband, Bruce (Nashville, TN); his brother-in-law, Daniel Self and wife, Eryn (Clyde, TX); his brother-in-law, Jason Self and wife, Michelle (Baird, TX); nieces, Abigail Westover, Keeley Cathey, Hailey Self, Madison Self, Alexandra Wilcoxen, Peyton Wilcoxen, and Lyvia Self; nephews, Davis Wilson, Keller Wilson, Chase Westover, Chad Westover, Adam Harborth, Boston Harborth, Dillon Self, and Eli Self; and countless friends from throughout the country who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Haley was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Kathy Self.
